B2B media companies earlier this year reported that they’re flat-out bullish about revenue growth in 2024, with events driving most of the growth, assisted by subscriptions and surprisingly, even print media. Like last year’s Benchmark Report, we started with where revenue growth is coming from, both over the last 12 months and going forward through the next 12 months. In 2024, it all comes down to events. Simply put, in-person trade shows and conferences came roaring back after the pandemic, and continue to outpace expectations.

No discussion of the media business in 2024 can be complete without addressing artificial intelligence. It can’t be overstated: AI has transformed every facet of the business, still embryonic in many ways, but the direction is clear. We added a new question for 2024 asking how AI is affecting the business this year. Interestingly, the replies are all focused on internal efficiencies, and not on the revenue side. That may change going forward, but for now, media operators see opportunity in efficiency—not in workforce reduction, necessarily, but focused on productivity for existing staff.
